Building the Future of Semiconductor Talent
in Oregon

Oregon's Edge

​​​Oregon is a national leader in semiconductor talent, home to 15% of the U.S. semiconductor workforce — trailing only California and Texas. Oregon excels in semiconductor manufacturing, as well as a growing sector of the industry focused on innovation, design, and research. Its workforce spans manufacturing, engineering, research, and design, from technical credentials to PhDs.​

Now, Oregon’s semiconductor industry faces an extraordinary opportunity for growth. Industry projects 2,500 new semiconductor jobs annually over the next decade. Yet, Oregon education systems produce roughly 2,000 semiconductor-related graduates per year. Of those, just 20% or 400 join the sector within five years. Employers also point to a critical skills gap, emphasizing the need for hands-on learning experiences, stronger foundations in math, science, and problem-solving abilities, as well as mechatronics, AI and robotics, complex design, software development, and data analysis.

Closing these gaps is critical to sustaining Oregon’s semiconductor talent leadership and building a workforce ready for the next generation of semiconductor technology.

The Vision

Oregon will be a global leader in semiconductor talent development, offering world-class, accessible training and career pathways that meet industry needs, boost economic mobility, and serve as a national model.

Our Purpose

The Oregon Semiconductor Talent Consortium unites more than 40 industry, education, workforce, economic development, and community-based organizations focused on strengthening Oregon’s semiconductor talent workforce.

The Consortium works through sustained collaboration and cross-sector shared leadership to build a skilled, diverse semiconductor workforce; meet the current and future talent needs of the semiconductor industry; and advance workforce opportunities for all Oregonians. The Consortium aligns industry around mutual needs, amplifies effective efforts, and builds cross-sector partnerships to advance collective priorities.

Key Goals

The Consortium has set the following workforce development goals:

  Increase semiconductor-related degree and credential completion.

Increase the percentage of semiconductor-related degree completers employed in sector after 5 years.

Increase the diversity of semi-related degree and credential completers and semiconductor workforce.

Priorities

To address these needs, the Consortium has identified the following semiconductor talent development priorities:
